In the recent past, the secretive organization Wikileaks has released secret documents obtained illegally from personnel within the U.S. military that detailed U.S. operations in the Iraq and Afganistan Wars. These documents can be interpreted in many ways, but are often interpreted to prove that the U.S. military has acted in ways unbecoming what the world expects of professional, American servicemen and women. Last week, the organization released documents from the State Department which is responsible for managing America's relationships with nations around the world as well as for helping Americans travel and American businesses to business abroad. The information and attitude conveyed by these messages have angered many foreign governments and challenged our relationship with them. The American government contends that these leaks of secret documents put American lives at risk and jeopardize our diplomatic and military missions overseas. Wikileaks claims that it is doing its patriotic duty to inform the public about what its government is doing.
What do you know about this? What do you think? Should our government be allowed to act secretly? Should all government and military operations be fully public?
